Built in 1914, The Glove Theatre is a historic theatre located at 42 North Main Street, Gloversville, NY, where it began its life presenting Vaudeville shows, orchestral concerts and opera. During the theatre's heyday in the 1950's, this 800 seat theatre presented motion pictures and was the largest movie house in Fulton County.

In the 1990’s, a plan arose to tear the theatre down to become a parking lot, but community action stopped this from happening. After being saved from possible demolition, and The Glove began receiving funding to present theatrical productions, mostly children’s and community theatre, with the goal of becoming a full-time theatre with Summerstock productions. These projects included the installation of radiant heating in the floor, the renovation of the ceiling, and more. A dedicated board of volunteers have run the theater ever since.

Over the last two years, The Glove has greatly enhanced programming including theatrical performances, concerts, educational events and movies. We’ve opened our doors and welcomed guests to at least one event every week for the past 3.5 years.

In 2024, we hosted over 200 events, logged more than 3,500 volunteer hours, and welcomed over 7,800 guests to our historic theater and downtown. We continue to be a cultural and economic catalyst for downtown Gloversville and beyond.

In 2025, The Glove Theatre named the Barbara V. Spraker Tourism Partner Award recipient by the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce.
